It might be flu season, but an American Career College instructor was reminded recently that enthusiasm is contagious year-round.
Kelly Lombera, the interim surgical technology program director at ACC-Orange County, was getting her flu shot on campus when the Rite Aid employee dispensing the vaccines revealed she had graduated from ACC six years ago.
“I was the last person to receive my flu shot and at this point she couldn't hold her excitement to tell someone,” Lombera said. “She was so proud to be an ACC graduate and was even more excited that she could give back to people like us who had helped jumpstart her career.”
Karen Mae Astraquillo graduated from the pharmacy technician program at ACC-Los Angeles in 2011. She did her externship at Kaiser and was hired at Rite Aid right out of school and was now a district lead pharmacy technician with the company.
Astraquillo shared with Lombera that she was returning to school to become a pharmacist.
“But,” Lombera said, “she just gushed about ACC and how she was inspired. She said although we weren't her home campus, she enjoyed that we were providing students with same inspiration here in Orange County.
"I felt this moment was a true testament of what we have all been representing and felt it important to share,” Lombera added.
