California Society of Respiratory Care (CSRC) board members were impressed by how many American Career College respiratory therapy (RT) students attended a recent meeting.
ACC-Orange County respiratory therapy program director Eli Cosa said one of the CSRC board members even apologized for entering the wrong room at St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton when she saw all the students.
"I asked, 'What are you looking for?' and she said the CSRC meeting," Cosa shared. "I told her she was in the right place and her eyes got big and she said 'No way, there’s so many people here.'"
Cosa said more than 30 ACC RT students attended the meeting and earned a continuing education unit (CEU). He added that it was a great networking event for the students. Cosa also was able to make connections with three new clinical sites for ACC students (Hoag Hospital Newport Beach, Hoag Hospital Irvine and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital).
Additionally, a CSRC board member from Hoag Hospital agreed to speak to ACC students about the importance of engaging in the community and hold an in-service on management expectations for new graduates applying for jobs.
"Overall, it was a great experience for our students and they really enjoyed it," Cosa said.
