Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the staff and students at American Career College-Los Angeles are always looking for ways to help out the community.
This September, after a bit of brainstorming on the best way to volunteer and still be safe, the ACC-Los Angeles administration, staff and student ambassadors decided to do a canned food drive to benefit a nearby church.
“When we started, we were unsure how it would go being that we didn’t have many students coming to the campus, and we were afraid we wouldn’t have enough to donate to the church,” ACC-LA academic retention specialist Brenda Clydesdale said. “But of course, ACC-LA has the best ambassadors and students.”
With the ambassadors taking the lead for their classes, students either brought in a donation or raised money to purchase the canned goods.
ACC-LA executive director Lani Townsend said she was extremely pleased with how the drive turned about and happy to report that the volunteers delivered more than 100 boxes of canned goods to Rosewood United Methodist Church.
“I am incredibly proud of the ACC-LA community for finding a way to help others during this challenging six-month COVID-19 period,” Townsend said. “It takes all of us to make a difference.”
