While giving their "elevator talk" to the 120 vendors and hospitals at American Career College-Ontario's career fair, Susan Flanagan wanted the students in her surgical technology program to remember there wasn't a single factor in their training that set them apart from other job seekers.
It was more like 1,200.
"They have over 600 hours of hands-on contact in the lab setting with anatomy, physiology, surgical procedures and critical thinking. They also have 600 hours in the field, so that’s 1,200 hours of hands-on practice," Flanagan, the ACC-Ontario surgical technology program director, said. "When they’re going out to their clinical setting they can start scrubbing in their first case, their very first day."
