Volunteers from American Career College helped families battling illness have a little summer fun this July by hosting a backyard cookout at the Ronald McDonald House in Los Angeles.
ACC-Los Angeles academic retention specialist Brenda Clydesdale said the kitchen was crowded as nearly a dozen volunteers rolled up their sleeves and got busy grilling hamburgers and preparing all the toppings and side dishes.
"It was a great success," Clydesdale said. "With the help of our program ambassadors, we did a BBQ for 90 of the guests that are staying at the Ronald McDonald House because they have a child going through medical treatment at Children's Hospital."
Besides cooking, Clydesdale said some of the volunteers got to show off their artistic abilities as well, by drawing with the children and providing watercolor hand paintings.
Ronald McDonald Houses are located throughout Southern California and help families stay close to their children when they need treatment for a serious medical condition. The houses provide a home-like setting, close to hospitals, where families can stay at no charge for as long as necessary.
