American Career College at St. Francis student volunteers stepped up in a big way to help with the St. Francis Medical Center Brown Bag Lunch Drive in September.
Eleven ACC-St. Francis students and three staff members assisted making the brown bag lunches. The annual drive is held to prepare food for homeless in the Los Angeles area; all food is donated from St. Francis Medical Center employees. Bertha Mohamed, student resource specialist at ACC-St. Francis, organized the group and took the lead on the volunteer effort.“We at St. Francis remain ever grateful for ACC’s help in our efforts to serve the men, women and children of our community,” Vice President of Development and Chief Executive Officer Dub Drees at St. Francis Medical Center Foundation shared.
Drees also shared that the ACC student volunteers “were delightful.”“I was so very grateful to Bertha for stepping up and showing me the ropes,” Drees said. "She definitely goes above and beyond the call – from attending planning meetings to physically delivering the lunches in her personal vehicle."“I’ve participated in the brown bag drive for the last 12 years and this year, we were able to fill over 500 brown bag lunches,” Mohamed shared.
“You should be most proud of the ACC staff and students," she added. "There was a joyful spirit in our auditorium that morning.”
