When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, full-time mom Janine Hernandez felt called to return to school and pursue a career in nursing.
"2020 was an eye-opener and we are really needed in the frontline,” Hernandez said. “I’d like to be called a hero. I want to save lives, and I want to make an impact.”
Now, months into her vocational nursing program at American Career College-Los Angeles, Janine is dedicated to joining the healthcare profession alongside several of her family members, including her mother, an ACC graduate.
“My mom did her medical assisting here in the ’90s,” she shared. “Almost all of my family is in the medical field. I want to follow after their footsteps, it was definitely my time.”
After almost 10 years away from school, Janine said transitioning back to the classroom takes commitment.
“It’s a lot of hard work and dedication, but it’s definitely doable,” she said. “ACC is accelerated, and they give you exactly what you need. They give you all the tools that help you succeed and the teachers here are amazing.”
As Janine excitedly continues her VN program at ACC-Los Angeles, she advises future nursing students to “just do it.”
“ACC is wonderful,” she shared. “As soon as you walk in it’s a warm hug. I chose the right school.”
