American Career College-Long Beach celebrated Medical Assistant Week with their students in October. Led by MA Program Director Dr. Ramon Geluz, MA Externship Coordinator Ana Cruz, and faculty, the week was designed to celebrate their MA students as well as educate them about their future role in healthcare with fun activities.
Medical Assistant Week Celebrations at ACC-Long Beach started with welcoming and celebrating approximately 120 students with caramel apples and the second day focused on the students’ commitment to their roles and responsibilities as Medical Assistants. Each student received a gold card with the red ACC logo containing the “Medical Assistants Creed” to remind them of their role and responsibilities.
On Day 3 of Medical Assistant Week, students were challenged and tested on their knowledge of Medical Assistant theory as well as clinical and laboratory skills.
“Each MA Class selected students to represent them in a Relay Game consisting of four stations manned by their instructors, who asked them questions about medical procedures and medical terminology,” MA Instructor Grace Ann Clark, who developed the game, said. “The students with the most correct theory answers and who completed the skills perfectly with the fastest time, won prizes from Career Services.”
Medical Assistant Week at ACC-Long Beach continued with community service. The MA students sought out to assist cancer patients and their caregivers with acts of kindness.
“Empathy and compassion are two of the most important traits in a successful career in healthcare, and on this day, the MA students decided to participate in Breast Cancer Awareness Week, headed by Ms. Nancy Parra, in preparing pamphlets and distributing them to the school and their neighborhood communities,” Dr. Geluz shared.
