The Medical Assistant and Massage Therapy programs of American Career College-Long Beach participated in the Khmer Parent Association's Mother and Daughter Conference at the St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach on Feb. 20.
Kara Mirarchi, the ACC-Long Beach massage therapy program director, brought six of her MT students who provided free massages in the Parr Health Enhancement Center to 41 event guests. Dr. Ramon Geluz, a medical assistant instructor, shared information with guests about the different courses at ACC-Long Beach, and the associate degrees and certificates available at other ACC campuses.
This event has paved the way for further community partnerships between ACC-Long Beach and The Cambodian Association of America, The Cambodian Family Community Center, The Khmer Parent Association and The Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council. Most importantly, the Long Beach and Signal Hill Community Improvement League, a state-subsidized child development center, has offered their free child care services for ACC-Long Beach students.
By chance, Dr. Geluz met Rady Reth, a 2014 graduate of ACC-Long Beach's medical assistant program, who was participating in the event and working as a successful certified medical assistant. Reth is employed at the doctor's office where she was hired during her externship and said she loves the opportunity to be able to serve the American Cambodian community day after day.
