More than 20 American Career College-Los Angeles students volunteered at the 19th annual Walk for Prader-Willi California Foundation this May in Long Beach at the El Dorado East Regional Park.
"The students and student ambassadors assisted with setting up everything needed for the carnival that took place after the walk," ACC-Los Angeles Student Services coordinator Ruthy Rodriquez said. "They also assisted with handing out lunch and, most importantly, doing it with a smile and making all youth with PWS feel like family."
According to the Mayo Clinic, Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a genetic disorder that can result in behavior problems, intellectual disability and short stature. Hormonal symptoms include delayed puberty and constant hunger leading to obesity. There is no cure but some symptoms can be treated with hormone therapy and a structured diet.
