Optical technician students from American Career College-Ontario got a peek at what goes on behind the scenes at a cutting-edge lab and also had a chance to work on the frontlines this February.
On Feb. 22, ACC-Ontario lead optical tech instructor Karina Castaneda and her class went to Bartley Optical Laboratory, where 24 students learned about all the different materials and how lens and frames can be produced.
"The class really loved going out into the field and seeing the lab," Castaneda said. "They felt it was highly informative and learned the real insight to lens processing and seeing the different positions they could qualify for after they graduate."
Two days later, Castaneda and about 10 of her students volunteered at a health fair with the Lions Club in Riverside. At the health fair, students practiced valuable customer services skills while providing no-cost frame adjustments for patients who had received eye exams and a pair of recycled frames at the event.
"They were very excited with the event and felt really humbled in helping out in the community," Castaneda said. "They are thrilled to continue to serve their communities."
