ACC-LA Donates 3,000 Items to Students at Frank del Olmo Elementary School

08/27/2018

Students at Frank del Olmo Elementary might not have started the day with everything they needed for class, but thanks to the generosity and community-minded spirit of American Career College-Los Angeles students and staff, they did by the final bell.

ACC Gives Back: School Supplies

ACC-Los Angeles raised the following supplies for students at Frank del Olmo Elementary School:

Pencil kits: 254
Glue sticks: 210
Calculators: 91
Composition books: 302
Sheet protectors: 203
Colored pencils: 260
Notebooks: 603
Three-ring binders: 69
Twin pocket folders: 78
Backpacks: 63
Flashdrives: 65
Other school items: 768

ACC-Los Angeles students, faculty and administration dropped off nearly 3,000 backpacks, notebooks, pens, pencils, calculators and more that were collected during this summer's back-to-school supply drive for the elementary school.

"Our goal was to collect 1,000 school items and ACC-Los Angeles managed to collect 2,966 school supplies," ACC-LA Student Services Coordinator Ruthy Rodriguez said. "Thank you to everyone for joining us in bringing in school supplies for grades K-5 and help bring smiles and cheer to our children in our local community."

ACC Chief Operating Officer Tim Lee also approved the donation of an additional 2,350 items the Los Angeles Unified School District typically doesn't provide for Del Amo students, including 600 backpacks, 250 calculators, 400 pencil kits, 300 crayon boxes, 500 pencils and 300 pencil sharpeners. The Orangewood Foundation also chipped in another 15 backpacks, loaded with paper, pencils and USB flash drives.

"The children were wonderful and so appreciative. We are all in awe of the generosity of the LA campus students, faculty and staff," ACC Chief Student Experience Officer Susan Pailet, Ed.D. said. "Today, they made a huge difference in the lives of a child, and their parents and teachers. What an incredible feeling."

ACC-LA executive director Lani Townsend said she was especially proud of how ACC-LA more than doubled its previous number of donations and single handly came close to the matching the combined amount of items collected by all campuses during last year's back-to-school supply drive.

"Thanks to every student and staff member that donated for your amazing community outreach! This total school effort is what makes ACC great," Townsend said.
