It was an exciting day at St. Vincent Medical Center in Los Angeles, as family and friends of more than 20 associate degree in nursing graduates flooded the auditorium. The day marked the end of a long and prosperous journey with American Career College-Los Angeles for the final class of 2019. The 27 students were buzzing with excitement to receive their nursing pins, a symbol of accomplishment for the end of their program and the transition into registered nurses.
To start the ceremony, ACC-Los Angeles executive director Lani Townsend took the stage to name the recepient of the Ellen M. Lewis Award. The prestigious honor is named after the founder of the ADN program at ACC, and awarded to one graduate with outstanding attendance, clinical skills and academic success. The award for the graduating class was given to Edith Iwuala. Iwuala proudly walked across the stage, surprised at the honor, and smiled proudly for her family and friends in the crowd.
The Florence Nightingale pledge closed out the ceremony. The graduates gathered in the front of the auditorium, nursing lamps lit, to recite the pledge and take the oath of a nurse. The new ACC alumni will go on to take the NCLEX to become a registered nurse, the first step in a lifetime of saving lives and representing the American Career College legacy of excellence.
