About 80 people at American Career College-Orange County signed up this February to be potential bone marrow and stem cell donors with the City of Hope.
ACC-Orange County hosted the City of Hope's Be The Match program on campus for three days, allowing students and staff plenty of time to learn more about the organization and the valuable work it does to pair patients with people registered in the National Marrow Donor Program, the largest and most diverse marrow registry in the world.
City of Hope community outreach specialist Joel Holley said he really appreciated everyone who enrolled and is sure there will be even more people signing up when his group returns.
“Your staff and students were some of the best and friendliest I have encountered in a long time," Holley said. "I'm confident the next time we visit we will definitely pass the 100 mark."
ACC-OC Student Services director Valerie Dickson said she's always impressed by the generosity of students and staff on campus, and this event did nothing to change her mind to that fact.
"Being in the healthcare field is about making a difference and I’m really proud and grateful for all of our students and faculty who registered to be donors," Dickson said.
