A group of American Career College-Orange County students traveled to San Diego this March to learn about the latest developments in occupational therapy and adaptive equipment technology.
At the fourth annual Occupational Therapy Association of California (OTAC) Spring Symposium, the ACC-Orange County occupational therapy assistant students participated in multiple workshops tailored specifically for them. The sessions covered topics from family-centered clinical care to professionalism in the workplace.
The 13 ACC-OC students also had the opportunity to share a meal with OTAC President Heather J. Kitching and the American Occupational Therapy Association's (AOTA) Vice President Shawn Phipps.
“During lunch we got insights, tips and inspiring stories from OT practitioners coming from different walks of life,” OTA student Tracey Katembo said. “It gave us a new sense of motivation to become occupational therapy assistants.”
The symposium, which took place from March 24-25, also provided students a great opportunity to network and interact with some of the presenters, who are experts in their respective fields.
“At the end of the event we felt so proud to be a part of such a fulfilling profession and are looking forward to the future that awaits us in the OT world,” Katembo exclaimed.
