More than 20 pharmacy technician students from American Career College-Orange County got a behind-the-scenes tour of a closed-door pharmacy in Anaheim this June.
Led by ACC-Orange County pharmacy technician program director Dr. Omid Parto and externship coordinator Virginia Lopez, the students visited Value Care Pharmacy and got to see how the daily operations of a closed-door pharmacy differs from a retail location.
Value Care’s lead pharmacy technician demonstrated to the group how to read a prescription label and how to fill in bubble packs. The cohort also got to see current ACC externship student Melinda Perez in action, as she demonstrated to the class how medication prepacks are done.
“The students were very engaged and asked many questions,” Lopez said after the tour. “Their feedback was that they really enjoyed the day and learned a lot. It was a great learning experience for our pharmacy technician students.”
A "closed-door pharmacy" provides pharmaceutical care to a defined and exclusive group of patients because they are treated by or have an affiliation with a specific entity, including a health maintenance organization or an infusion company.
