After dropping out of high school, Wendy Perez Esteban wasn't sure what options were left for her.
"I was really lost and I didn't know what to do in my life. I had lost hope that I was going to accomplish something," she said.
On Saturday, Esteban and nearly 900 other American Career College graduates celebrated accomplishing something very big — the beginning of a brighter future.
Esteban, proudly sporting gold honor roll and silver High School Equivalency cords, said she was able to go from not even considering school to earning an associate degree in surgical technology thanks to the ACC staff and faculty.
"The school really helps you out. They give you all the resources available to you so you can become certified, so you can pass that exam — as long as you use those resources," she said.
Founder and CEO David Pyle said it's always very exciting for him to see students complete their journey at American Career College. Education is a lifelong pursuit, Pyle added, and hoped that the graduates would try every day to push themselves to be better.
"Our students take a big leap of faith to invest in themselves and their future and when they cross the line — the finish line for graduation — they made good. It takes a lot of courage for our students to invest in their future," he said.
Divine Ramirez, a dental assisting graduate from ACC-Orange County, urged new students to not quit on themselves and finish their education despite any challenges along the way.
"Work hard, don't give up," Ramirez said. "It's going to be hard, but just don't give up. It's all worth it at the end. For this moment, it's all worth it."
